Your Role

As a DevOps Engineer at Virtual Internships, you will be part of a global team dedicated to building and maintaining a highly reliable, secure, and scalable cloud infrastructure.

Taking full ownership of infrastructure automation and CI/CD pipelines, you will collaborate closely across teams to ensure seamless deployment and operational efficiency. With strong problem-solving skills and a passion for innovation, you will explore and integrate cutting-edge tools to keep our infrastructure at the forefront of technology.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • You'll design, implement, and maintain our cloud infrastructure on AWS to ensure reliability, security, and scalability
  • 100% of our infra is automated - you will own infrastructure automation with Terraform, implementing robust disaster recovery solutions and business continuity plans
  • 100% of our deployment pipeline are automated - you will enhance and optimize our GitOps workflows using ArgoCD and GitHub Actions for seamless CI/CD
  • You will architect and manage our Kubernetes (EKS) environment, ensuring optimal performance and resource utilization
  • You will implement and maintain comprehensive monitoring solutions using Prometheus and Grafana
  • We are paranoid about security - you'll implement best practices across our technology stack and conduct regular audits
  • You will identify and evaluate new CNCF projects and tools that solve our problems and/or are worth experimentation

Your Attributes

  • You're championing reliability through your infrastructure design and automation practices
  • You are actively working to hone your craft and stay current with cloud-native technologies
  • Security is integrated into your workflow; you consider potential vulnerabilities in every system you design
  • You enjoy participating in and providing feedback on architecture and infrastructure design reviews
  • You are accountable: if you deploy something you own it from inception to production
  • You are collaborative: you work with development teams to create infrastructure that supports their needs
  • You can work independently: you manage your own time efficiently with a strong sense of prioritization
  • You can manage your workload: you communicate frequently and honestly to stakeholders about the work you commit to
  • You are fast-paced: you love the speed and impact you have in adapting infrastructure to changing requirements

    Your Experience

    • 2+ years of background and experience in DevOps or SRE roles
    • Command over one scripting language - including debugging and automation capabilities
    • Strong proficiency with Terraform for infrastructure automation
    • Experience with AWS services and architecture patterns
    • Expertise in Kubernetes administration
    • Hands-on experience with GitOps practices using ArgoCD and CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions
    • Experience with event streaming platforms like Kafka
    • Clear understanding of monitoring solutions (Prometheus/Grafana)
    • Comprehensive knowledge of web security, including infrastructure security, container security, and access controls
    • Experience with incident response, disaster recovery planning, and business continuity implementation

    • You have contributed to open-source CNCF projects
    • You have experience building secure multi-region or multi-cloud architectures
    • You have implemented zero-trust security models in cloud environments
    • You have experience with advanced observability platforms beyond basic monitoring
    • You have worked at a remote-first organization

      • Remote-First: All roles at VI are currently and will remain remote - flexibility to work from anywhere
      • Flexible Working Hours: Start earlier, leave earlier, take a shorter lunch, or leave later, it's totally up to you.
      • Annual Leave: Wherever you are in the world, you’ll get 25 days of paid annual leave per year, plus bank holidays and 5 sick days.
      • Life Event Leave: There are moments in life where your life responsibility is a higher priority than work (e.g. moving house, your best friend getting married, your sister having a baby) therefore, you’ll get 5 days of paid life-event leave to support these occasions. You also get a day off on your birthday. This is in addition to your Annual Leave.
      • Flexible VIer Budget: You’ll receive a flexible budget of $1,000 per year that you can use on but not limited to your work setup, personal wellness, or professional development.
      • Tech: New joiners receive either a Windows, a Macbook or a $750 budget for your company laptop depending on the role and location.
